Kid's Books Holiday Blog Hop & Giveaway

Posted by w_cartmell@hotmail.com on December 3, 2012 at 6:40 AM

Professor Letters needs ideas on how he and the letters of the alphabet can celebrate Christmas. Perhaps you can help? What is your favourite celebration for Christmas? Mine is the Christingle Service. This is a family get together, where carols are sung and each child has a Christingle to light. Christingles consist of an orange, representing the world. Around the orange is a red ribbon, representing the blood that Christ spilled for us. There are sweets poked in the top of the orange on four sticks. These four sticks stand for the seasons of the year and the sweets are the fruits of the earth. Lastly there is a candle pushed into the top of the orange, representing Jesus Christ as the light of the world. It is magical to see all the Christingles alight as a hymn is sung.

So, let me know what your favourite way of celebrating Christmas is, using the contact button and I’ll send you a link to a free Professor Letters eBook as a Christmas Present especially for you.

I asked my children what their favorite way of celebrating Christmas is (I told them that getting gifts doesn't count).. My oldest, she's almost 12, likes when we get together with the family. My son, he's 8, loves putting up the Christmas Tree. Finally, my youngest daughter who is 6 loves driving around and seeing all the Christmas lights and decorations!

Happy Holidays!

Although I now celebrate Christmas with my husband's family, I'm not familiar with the different types of Christmas celebrations are. Celebrating Hanukkah growing up, I loved lighting the menorrah, spinning the dreidal, and celebrating the festival of lights with my family. I still enjoy our family dinner of brisket and latkes, and love lighting the candles on my own menorrah.

We celebrate with family on Christmas Eve, just like we used to do when I was little, in my home country, Switzerland. Lots of homemade cookies, lots of laughs and stories. Memory making.

I think one of the best ideas is to go out together with family ,wherever you live, enjoy the view, go for a walk, it's really magical at night with all the lights in the city or quiet in the countryside and when it's snowing- just magical!
